Good morning {{first_name}},

So recently, I’ve been moving around a lot, working from new locations every day.

I also put myself in an uncomfortable situation on Friday.

I walked into a coffee shop at 7:55 am and joined an online networking event. It was something I’d never done before.

We started off by introducing ourselves and our businesses.

The call was full of people who were at least 30 years old.

After the brief introductions, the host put us into random rooms with one other person, and we’d be speaking for 20 minutes.

The first guy worked in PR and was quite informative. He told me how his industry works.

He said that people will come to him, for example, in the tech industry, and want an article published to get more exposure. So, instead of putting them in a newspaper read by the general public, they’d put them in a tech newspaper that’s read by their ideal audience.

Next, I spoke to an IT specialist.

He owns a business and has built software that people install on their computers. When they have a computer issue or need IT help, they can press a button on his software, connect with the IT team, and the team can take control of the computer remotely to fix the issue.

The owner mentioned that he needed design work on a regular basis, so I let him know that I’d contact him soon.

After this, we were back with everyone else on the call and were told that there was another session like this the following week. I was encouraged to join.

So, I left the meeting feeling quite proud of myself.

I had learnt something and got a potential lead.

After this, I went from the coffee shop to the office, and as I was working, I could hear someone at another desk in the room on a call. He was an interior designer.

I had recently just closed a project with an interior designer.

So, I got a few business cards out of my bag and went over to introduce myself.

The guy was really nice, and in the end, he recommended some more networking events I could attend.

I finished the day having got a lot of work done, a potential lead, and having put myself out of my comfort zone.

Looking back, it reminded me that you don’t find opportunities by waiting for them. You find them by putting yourself in places where they can happen.

Sometimes, growth comes from a series of small decisions to do something differently, even when you’re not entirely comfortable doing it.
